Europe’s geospatial data infrastructure is evolving. As key INSPIRE components move to central EU services, the transition will enhance long-term sustainability and resilience, rationalising resources while maintaining service continuity and improving efficiency.

After almost ten years since its introduction, the INSPIRE Reference Validator was discontinued on April 1st, 2026. The Validator has been a crucial tool for INSPIRE implementers to test the compliance of their metadata, spatial datasets, and services.

The College of Commissioners has adopted the proposal for simplification of the INSPIRE Directive as part of an environmental simplification package. The Parliament and Council will examine and negotiate the proposal under the ordinary legislative procedure.
